UAE Shipping Calculator Guide: Chargeable Weight and Real Cost Scope
Understand volumetric weight, package-level calculations and the difference between an illustrative freight subtotal and a carrier quote.

Understand the calculation before trusting the total. Explore three predefined carton examples with visible dimensions, an assumed divisor and explicitly illustrative rates.
The examples compare actual weight with volumetric weight using length × width × height in centimetres, divided by an assumed factor of 5,000. DHL’s guidance explains this method for its standard centimetre-and-kilogram calculation. Other services can use different rules.
The larger weight is used before carrier-specific rounding. All rates here are invented teaching assumptions, not live quotes. There is no account, data-entry form, booking or transmission of shipment details.
Each example assumes AED18 per chargeable kilogram, AED60 pickup and AED20 documentation, with the fixed charges applied once per shipment. Totals exclude rounding, minimum charges, surcharges, insurance, duties, taxes, destination handling and final-delivery extras.
These examples are for cartons under the stated method. Do not apply the same divisor or pricing logic automatically to ocean containers, road freight or vehicle shipments.
Measure the packed shipment, record each package separately and provide the exact route and service scope. Ask the carrier to confirm its divisor, rounding, minimums and all inclusions. The full calculator guide explains why arithmetic differs from a quotation.
For terminal and delivery responsibilities, continue to shipping ports. For automation assumptions rather than freight prices, see the separate AI logistics examples.
EXPLORE THE METHOD
Predefined scenarios. Every assumption stays visible.
HYPOTHETICAL • NOT A QUOTATION
| Item | Assumption | AED |
|---|---|---|
| Main carriage | 7.2 kg × AED18 | 129.60 |
| Pickup | Once per shipment | 60.00 |
| Documentation | Once per shipment | 20.00 |
| Subtotal | Before excluded costs | 209.60 |
Assumed divisor: 5,000 cm³/kg. No carrier rounding. Excludes minimums, surcharges, insurance, duties, taxes, destination handling and final-delivery extras. Rates are invented for teaching.
HYPOTHETICAL • NOT A QUOTATION
| Item | Assumption | AED |
|---|---|---|
| Main carriage | 24 kg × AED18 | 432.00 |
| Pickup | Once per shipment | 60.00 |
| Documentation | Once per shipment | 20.00 |
| Subtotal | Before excluded costs | 512.00 |
Assumed divisor: 5,000 cm³/kg. No carrier rounding. Excludes minimums, surcharges, insurance, duties, taxes, destination handling and final-delivery extras. Rates are invented for teaching.
HYPOTHETICAL • NOT A QUOTATION
| Item | Assumption | AED |
|---|---|---|
| Main carriage | 21.6 kg × AED18 | 388.80 |
| Pickup | Once per shipment | 60.00 |
| Documentation | Once per shipment | 20.00 |
| Subtotal | Before excluded costs | 468.80 |
Assumed divisor: 5,000 cm³/kg. No carrier rounding. Excludes minimums, surcharges, insurance, duties, taxes, destination handling and final-delivery extras. Rates are invented for teaching.
GOOD QUESTIONS
No. Every displayed rate is an illustrative assumption, and the exclusions are part of the example.
No. The site deliberately uses predefined examples without data-entry forms. Obtain an actual quote from a carrier or forwarder.
